Several months ago I joined the Block of the Month at the Cabbage Rose. This seemed like a good way to try some challenging patterns. Letting someone else choose the fabrics also appealed to me. I just use whatever fabric they send me. So at least that part is stress-free.
I've completed 4 blocks and each one had it's difficulties. Only one of the blocks is perfectly square but the other 3 aren't off by much. There is no need to dwell on that though. I wanted to be challenged and I certainly have been.
A gift from my in-laws.
Germinating 7 herbs - Thyme, Chives, Italian Basil, Purple Basil, Dill, Mint and Parsley. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

We've just returned from visiting family for the holidays. Lots of snacking and relaxing going on and the fireplace got plenty of use at my mother's house.
The highlight of the season was taking Christian to see the Nutcracker at Bass Hall. It was a fun and beautiful performance. 10 minutes into the ballet Christian leaned over to say "it's just like watching a movie!" Of course it was way better than going to the movies but I think that is what he meant.
I'll have some crafting stuff to show later. Christian made some cute things for his grandmothers that must be shown off.
Thank you to those who visited my blog in 2008. I appreciate your kind comments and encouragement.
Happy New Year!
I attended another baby shower last weekend. Our church has quite a few pregnant ladies. This time it was our pastor's daughter.
The pattern for the bibs is in Bend-the-Rules Sewing. I used cotton fabric backed with a flannel. I also made another Umbilical Cord hat in pink.
We spent some time in Kansas over the Thanksgiving break. Then back home to host the Thanksgiving meal for Jon's family. Jon's brother was visiting from Ohio with his wife and daughter. We always have fun hanging out with them.
We are trying to get in the Christmas spirit. Getting the tree up will probably help. Maybe tonight will be the night.
I've been working on my knitting skills lately. Getting more comfortable with those double pointed needles.
The results:
the umbilical cord hat - a baby shower gift.
This was a hit at the party. I even had another expecting mother ask for one.
Pattern from The Knitter's Handbook

This hat pattern is called BasicSimpleLazy. You can find it here .
Yarn - NaturallyCaron.com Country
This yarn wasn't my favorite. It tended to split.
I've been spending too much time over at Ravelry. It is a great resource for patterns and inspiration.
A sewing machine cover has been on my to-do list for months. I knew it had to be simple or it would never get done.
I used canvas and some Aunty Cookie fabric I've been saving for just the right project.
I'm just crazy about these silly characters.
It's been a while since my last post. I've just been feeling quiet I guess. Mostly just concentrating on my family and enjoying every minute of it.
Christian has been sewing pillow cases. We had fun at the fabric store choosing fabric. He couldn't wait to get back home to start sewing. So we got right to work and he did a great job.
I've been working on a pillow cover also. This Antique Star pattern has been a good challenge.
